Description
Let's discuss whether or not the crops database should be centralized or distributed.
Centralized
- All crops are in one Git repository.
- One group/organization is the "steward" of the entire collection - handles hosting and maintenance of it.
- Permission to add/alter crops is granted to individual maintainers.
- Apps that utilize the data can either download the whole dataset, or query the central provider for individual pieces of it.
Distributed
- Crops exist in multiple smaller Git repositories.
- Each repository is owned/managed by separate groups/individuals.
- Apps that utilize the data can choose which datasets to download. Or they can perform queries on one or more centralized providers that serve to collect and aggregate multiple datasets from other sources.
