OTel Shorts proposal for KubeCon

One of my co-workers would like to do a collaboration on OTel shorts for KubeCon. Here is the proposal:

Q&A with OTel booth visitors (inspired by this video) --> to be posted after the event is over

Possible questions:

• Leftie or righty?
• iPhone or Android?
• Mac, Linux, or Windows?
• Favourite programming language?
• Dev or Ops?
• JSON or YAML?
• Spaces or tabs?
• Do you prefer to consume content through video or text?
• What’s your superpower?

Or maybe red flags or green flags related to OTel?

• “Green or red flag: exporting full request bodies as span attributes?”
• “Green or red: 100% sampling in production?”
• “Green or red: consistent semantic conventions across services?”
• “Green or red: no trace IDs in logs?”
• “Green or red: using OTLP and avoiding vendor lock-in?”
• “Green or red: auto-instrumentation only, no manual spans?”
• “Green or red: histogram buckets missing?”
• “Green or red: exemplars linking traces and metrics?”

Community managers spotlight on Adriana, Reese, and Julia

Content ideas:

• Introduce themselves / background / how they go to Otel
• Give a tour of the OTel booth
• Highlights of KubeCon
• Favourite OTel talk so far
• Promote upcoming Humans of OTel (livestream?)
• Goals are as OTel community managers

First of all, yes, I like this idea.

A few thoughts and comments on the specifics:

• Let's not go the "iphone vs android" or any other thing that resembles a way of "me better than you" discussion. I think "favorite X" etc are better
• The green and red flag carries a similar risk, to be honest, the example you shared from google didn't sit right with me, i.e. calling out "knowing only one language and it's PHP" being a red flag(?). It sounds fun, but at the same time it's condescending. Some comments on the google

I think having quick questions on OpenTelemetry and how people use it, is better, especially without calling something a "red flag" or "green flag", like the old "what's your favorite signal"

a lot of the things suggested in the initial post are fine with me, I just want to make sure, we avoid:

• "me better than you": questions like iphone vs android, windows vs linux, etc, so asking "what's your favorite operating system" will not create that one vs the other tension. And some of them are just fine (devs or ops, leftie or righty, etc)
• "red vs green flag": if there is a clear "better" way of doing it, I would not ask that question (see the PHP example or the "knows only 1 programming language"), also instead of green vs red, what about "Favorite " or "Team or "?

So, from my point of view this works:

• Your favorite signal? (Traces, Logs, Metrics, Profiles, ...)
• If you could only collect one signal, which one would it be?
• If you would have to give up on one signal entirely, which one would be the hardest do live without?
• What feature in OpenTelemetry are you missing?
• What feature of OpenTelemetry do you like the most?
• Your favorite programming language? Operating System? ...
• Are you team "Keep Everything" or "Sampling"? (that's the one were I would say we have a clear divide in the community)
• ...
