As for a Windows version, I would think there would be less merit to it, as one could probably accomplish a similar task through a few simple commands.

E.g.

Expand-Archive comic.cbz -DestinationPath comic_pages
img2pdf comic_pages\*.jpg -o output.pdf

A UI to make adjustments to the commands would make more sense.

Any reason you think a Windows version would help vs just a small script? Curious to understand the need you are looking for.

Good morning. On a computer, handling and renaming files is more practical. Because in the app, if you don't rename the files, the app converts them out of order. For example, the files from the comic book series are already in reading order, but when sent to the app, it scrambles the order of the files.

You are correct, the default option on the app is to rely on the file(s) name instead of the actual offset. There is a toggle to rely on the offset instead, this way it uses the offset within the CBZ instead.

Are you still seeing them out of order when you toggle this before converting them?

It would be ideal to not have to do any extra work at all to use the app, which is why I had both options available 😅

@omar908 There is merit to making a release version for Windows even if it doesn't replicate the app completely AND EVEN IF IT REQUIRES JUST A FEW COMMANDS.

For example, I created this PDF to JPG with DPI which can be done by many ways but there wasn't a simple black-box user-centric kind of way that can just do it without requiring finding out any commands or special packages. I added all the libraries in the exe in my file so that anyone can download it and run on their system.
And I did it completely with AI, you can do much more better than this.

The reality it, it was me who needed it the most and I use it everyday mainly to print books that are too small.

And adding a bulk/multi option is cherry on top.

So yes, there is merit to making a release version for windows, maybe a separate project from this, but that's upto you.

Fully agree with the sentiment, it would be a fun project perhaps with a Rust backend and making it cross platform. Not against it at all.

Really inquiring more on the gap with the current existing application though. If there is a need for a usage in a different platform can be stemmed from a lack of feature. Specifically in this case, which is the order of the pages, which the toggle might have fixed but could be we just need a third option of sorting to be able to use the app for the use case. Really curious to know if that is the case as well

Naah naah. You really don't need to think that deeply about it. Even though I used your app a lot on the phone I rarely even touched the settings. I think for a start just make an app that extracts the images as they are and just puts it into a PDF but in bulk, nothing more is needed.

Once you have made one version of that app then there can be feature requests later and you can decide what to do or not do with it.
Here are some features that do actually matter for me(someone who prints cbz files almost daily):

1. Reverse the order of pages. It matters a lot if it's a manga because Japanese people read from the wrong end of the book(Maybe that's why they are cursed).
2. Using 2-4 pages per sheet. (In built solutions ALWAYS CUT parts of the book)
3. Enlarging the images to a standard paper size like A4.
4. Page Orientation Changes in case the scans were weird.
5. Adding/Removing margins. Removing if too much and adding on the outsides especially if it's multiple pages per sheet.
6. All the above can be done without worrying about compression and all since it's local but yeah it's a challenge if you do want to go the compression route or even the OCR route.

(Sounds stupid but 2 & 3 are really necessary if you are printing them otherwise they come out very small. Inbuilt solutions of the printer for this is very wacky and very limited).

Note: I am not that well versed in programming(otherwise my app wouldn't have been made by AI), only a bit of FastAPI Python Backend, no idea about rust but if the code is open, I will like to look into it from time to time.
