Determination of IFs

I just tried out the PI predictor, great work. I have a question about how the IFs are determined. The summary report I got indicated that the highest IF I have is 9.4, but the highest is actually 18.571:

Is there a dependence on the type of article, e.g. a theoretical/review article versus an empirical article and how this might affect IF calculations, somehow?

Thanks Bryan,

I checked to see where the difference stems from, and found that from the
IF database we downloaded (a year ago actually), we have an IF of 9.396
for BEHAV BRAIN SCI. So, it looks as if the journal has increased it's
citations, which is good!

As one consequence, maybe I will try to talk to my co-authors to have the
IF data updated to the latest numbers.

Why is the IF from the database you used so different to the ones listed on their (BBS) website? Is it a different IF metric?

Note that according to the above the IF has not been less than 12 since 2008.

Which IF is to be believed? :)

Hi Bryan,

There are 2-types of IF in general, the per-year IF, and the 5-year IF. In
the website, I reported the 1-year IF of 2012 that we downloaded, but in
the model we use both to score, but even the data we have for the 5-year IF
is not exactly like the link you sent me, we have a 14.305 5-year IF for
your journal. I guess the truth lies somewhere in between....
