500 error on /__nuxt_studio/auth/github in prod?

I installed the Nuxt Studio Beta according to the documentation and it works in development, where localhost:3000/_studio directs me to my github oauth application and that sends me back to /__nuxt_studio/auth/github.

However in prod (after of course adjusting the callback url to my prod website's url in the gh oauth app settings), doing the same thing results in /_studio instantly sending me to /__nuxt_studio/auth/github with a 500 error. Is this a bug or a configuration error on my part?

and my .env in both dev and prod of course has the STUDIO_GITHUB_CLIENT_ID and STUDIO_GITHUB_CLIENT_SECRET variables

unfortunately I can't get any logs from my docker container, as it only logs "Listening on port 3000"
