Rust/Rocket in production mode?

Can you retry rocket benchmark in production mode according to this comment?

Rust/Rocket is already used in the production mode. Moreover, I've added an option (-p) to start the sample in the "vanilla" production mode (before the change, the number of workers was hardcoded to 256):

cargo run --manifest-path rust/rocket/Cargo.toml --release -- -p

On MacBook Pro it starts 16 threads, however the optimized mode works faster (I've tried different configurations - XPS with Windows shows almost the same results, and virtualized Ubuntu with 4 CPU, used for the results below, shows the difference too).

To emulate the performance tests referenced in the ticket you've mentioned I've used hey with the corresponding parameters (ab doesn't work well in macOS, so I couldn't use the original method as is):

hey -n 1000 -c 500 -disable-keepalive "http://127.0.0.1:3000/"

The results:

• "Vanilla" production mode: 465 requests/sec
• Optimized production mode (with 256 workers): 865 requests/sec

To get more relevant results (1000 requests is too low), I've re-run the tests with 10000 requests (-n 10000), and got:

• "Vanilla" production mode: 3141 requests/sec
• Optimized production mode (with 256 workers): 7719 requests/sec

Please note that using "vanilla" production mode for the current benchmarks won't be fair - looks like the requests are queued, and not dropped if the queue is full. It doesn't directly relate to the benchmarks, and I've tried to made the samples to be relatively fair. An additional investigation is required though, so I've opened the issue #19 for that.

Why is that that slow? Ruby/Rack is 2-5 times faster and Ruby/Roda is around 2-3 times.
