display connection timeout when connecting, from main screen and from settings.
distinguish server down or user side failure?

This is due to packet timeouts I believe, please test with the new update (ac85049), it will try to reconnect with a greater timeout if this happens

it really tries 2 times as the logoutput states, but that's not enough when connecting on edge. tested on 1411211677

yes it increased the timeout to 10000 instead of 5000

Please test again, it's going to go double twice, so it'll try 20 seconds before giving up
