Various modern screen size (4:3 16:9 1:1)

Here is a nice reference of modern screen size, filtered by ratio (16:9, 4:3, 1:1 etc.) :

Theses 16:9 and 1:1 ratios are very in use now. As we shouldn't support drawing in very high definition, it can be useful to propose 1280x720 or 512x512 for artists wanting to post on social media and modern platforms.

Among with a easy double size export with GIF animation and color cycle support (I mean color cycle are not supported in animated GIF, which make it complicated to showcase on a modern world). This has been told in another ticket.

Another idea is a mode to make the display work more like GIMP and Photoshop and allow the canvas to be sized to the window and the resolution just to be a multiplier: 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x.

In this mode the +/- buttons or CTRL+/- keys would zoom in and out. Maybe CTRL-scroll wheel could do the same.

The Page Size would determine the resolution.

Maybe a Prefs flag could put it in this mode. This might be easier for first-time users to understand.

Yep ! Don't forget 1:1 (so 1:1 button) because those Square Size are so in use on any social media posts. Pico8 is also a 128x128 16 colours scren.

Can you add a little reminder of the current page size (so current document) using the new ux font you use for brush size and ° ?

I like the idea of sizing to the window and the resolution being a multiplier. Would be great to be able to get a 'true' fullscreen regardless of monitor size. Same for resizing the window.

In the old days there were quite a small number of common aspect ratios, but today there's so many. I'm on 21:9 right now, and 16:9 fits ok, but isn't really wide enough.

Sure.

But this time, this plus layers, we are leaving the Deluxe Paint remake to create something new. We are releasing 2.2.1 and then... Up to Mark to rework the whole canvas to support this, layers and toolbox OUTSIDE the current page.

I think it will be great to attract new users. Layers alone will make production a lot easier. I just hope we manage to add a legacy Amiga mode like Halfbrite, a mode I really like; Colorfont support (that maybe tricky) a mode I really like; or some Perspective tool.

Very interesting! Well, if you're doing layers, halfbrite may be nothing more than a transparent layer on top of the stack.

I don't know. I think it will be 1bit transparency only, no alphachannel, no transparency mode or %.

Halfbrite was so convenient to draw shadows. A pity so few Amiga games use it to cast real shadows. Super Cars did it.

Agree - extra halfbrite was wonderful. The shadows in my game here are kind-of inspired by it, but really just a half-opacity black rendering on top of the sprites. Funny you wonder why more games didn't use it - I once asked the very same question to reddit and got some interesting replies.

Interesting. I badly want to somehow remake Lotus Turno Challenge 2 level loading screen in HB... as a tutorial or pydpainter teaser.

@Sleuthgame - I think Desert Strike (see video here) is the best place to look for in-gameplay use of EHB. Supercars is good, but you don't see the shadows so much except on jumps, whereas in DS you get to see them all the time.
