How to configure 'Project Magnet' Beacons

Changing the URL

1. Download the 'Eddystone' beacon configuration app:

• Get Android app
• Get iOS app

3. Turn the beacon on
4. Put the beacon in eddystone-url mode (skip this step if done prior)
5. Launch the 'Eddystone' app.
6. Find your beacon in the list and tap it. This can be difficult if you're in a room full of beacons. Look for one marked 'URL' (in eddystone-url mode) and a large RSSI value (close to your phone).
7. Enter a shorted URL that points to your final URL.
8. (Optional) You can change the Name which can make finding your beacon easier next time.
9. Enter the default password: 666666
10. Press Modify.
11. Your beacon will turn off automatically, turn the beacon back on.
12. Your beacon should now be broadcasting. Turn off the beacon when you no longer want to broadcast your URL.

Turning the beacon off

1. Long press the square button until the red light blinks once.

Turning the beacon on

1. Long press the square button until the green light blinks once.

Changing the beacon mode to eddystone-url

The beacon can be in one of three modes:

1. iBeacon
2. eddystone-uid
3. eddystone-url

The mode can be changed by double pressing the square button. The beacon's light will blink green between 1-3 times to indicate the new mode. By default the beacons are configured to iBeacon mode, but we need the beacon to be in eddystone-url mode.

1. Make sure the beacon is powered on.
2. Double press the square button until the green light blinks 3 times.

You should only need to do this once, unless you accidentally change the mode.
