Is there a way to support drag and drop integration with the OS

Thank you for the great idea (and implementation) of adding scripting to mc.

This is really the situation when right technology works best when applied on the right level.

Do you think it is possible, and perhaps you can give some clues, on how to add
drag-and-drop support to mc using Lua script? I mean, the ability to drag and drop
files between panels with mouse (without using F5), and, more importantly, between
mc terminal window and rest of X applications, like Nautilus in Ubuntu.

Not possible: this involves too many hooks that aren't there currently. However, MC now has a revamped mouse API (thanks largely to my initiative), and this makes drag-drog a much nearer target.

This isn't possible directly. MC (or any trerminal app) is only aware of "escape sequences" sent to it by the terminal emulator (gnome-terminal, xterm, whatever), and such terminals don't currently send any special sequence meaning "a file has been dropped" etc. These emulators will also have to support some "drag this file" sequence. You'll have to start a campaign in these emulators' communities first.

HOWEVER, for some cases you can make with the following recipe for your "User Menu":

c Copy to cliboard the current dir's path
  echo -n %d | xsel -b -i

C Copy to cliboard the current file's path
  echo -n %d/%f | xsel -b -i

ctrl-c Copy to cliboard the current file (or selected files)
  xclip-copyfile %s

ctrl-x Cut to clipboard the current file (or selected files)
  xclip-cutfile %s

ctrl-v Paste file(s) from clipboard
  xclip-pastefile

D Copy to clipboard the first URL mentioned in the file.
  # Features:
  # - We allow "," in URLs.
  # - We don't grab the trailing "," or "." in "see http://whatever, and come back."
  head %f | tr \\r ' ' | grep -P -o 'https?://([^ ".,]|[.,]\S)+' | echo -n "`head -1`" | xsel -b -i

(You'll have to change the hotkeys "ctrl-{c,x,v}" above to single key letters (I've published a patch today to remove this restriction in MC.))
