Shhlack does not appear after installation (OS X, standalone)

I've followed the instructions in the install file but I am unable to see Shhlack in my standalone client. Pressing Alt+s doesn't do anything -- is this a Windows shortcut and does it translate to Macs?

I've tried quitting and re-opening the program, as well as signing out and back in to my team.

Any help would be appreciated -- I really love the idea!

This is the console output on running the patch script.

I've just installed it on my MacOS Sierra and it worked using the following:

1. Download latest standalone release from https://github.com/mindedsecurity/shhlack/releases
   eg. https://github.com/mindedsecurity/shhlack/releases/download/1.0.9/standalone-1.0.9.zip
2. unzip standalone-1.0.9.zip && cd standalone-1.0.9
3. bash ./patch_slack.sh
4. launch Slack from applications

Thank you for your followup @wisec. It initially didn't work for me, I had to uninstall Slack and download the latest version from the Slack website (I did the .dmg file, not the Apple Store version--so cannot verify with this version).

Steps to reproduce:

1. Uninstall Slack (just delete it from the applications menu).
2. Download the .dmg file from Slack.com (non-beta version, non-apple store version)
3. From applications control+right-click -> open Slack (It needs to verify file validity first before we can run the script).
4. Exit out of Slack (once it fully verifies).
5. Follow the steps from @wisec above.

This got me working.

@bkwood89 thanks for the instructions. This also worked for me!

I tried uninstalling my (outdated, App Store) version of Slack and downloading it instead from the Slack website. I was able to patch this version. I then uninstalled and then installed the latest version of Slack from the App Store and was unable to patch this version.

It seems that it's not possible then to use Shhlack when Slack is downloaded from the App Store. Maybe Apple puts in some silent protections to prevent you from modifying its approved apps?

In any case, this should probably be documented for other people hoping to use this software 😄

Thanks, as a matter of fact, we were actually using the latest version from Slack site, and didn't think about App Store:). We'll add it to the doc for better clarity.
I'll also check it on the App Store to see if there's some workaround.

I was helping a co-worker install this and he has encountered this issue as well. We followed the steps in @bkwood89 comment with the exception of using the Apple Store version of Slack. It did not appear after installation.

Update: My co-worker used the version of slack downloaded from their website and the application patched successfully. It appears that this issue is very dependent on the version of slack installed and the version from the apple store does not work.

Same for me... did not work with appstore install version. Worked with direct download from slack site.

Found the issue fpr Slack from App Store. Sandboxed apps have no access to user home dir, but have a different one, looking to get a workaround
