Any Pre-build releases coming?

Hello,

I am exploring various voxel systems for a project and came across your Qubatron which really looks interesting from the videos that I have seen.

I am wondering if it is cross platform for Windows, Linux, MacOS, and seem to be possible for WASM as well from an initial browsing of the code but I am wondering if you have any pre-built binaries so that I can test it our, preferably on Windows just to be able to see it in action locally.

Anything that you might be able to do would be greatly appreciated as it looks very exciting and interesting to explore.

Hi, the fastest way to try it is the WASM version at https://milgra.com/qubatron/ . There are no pre-built binaries but with a little work it is possible to build it on windows with minGW and freeglut : https://medium.com/swlh/setting-opengl-for-windows-d0b45062caf

Yea, I was able to run the WASM version and it was pretty impressive for which I like it a lot. It also prompted me to send you and email which you may see in your inbox and hopefully we can discuss things more, if you are interested.

I was just trying to build Qubqtron on my Ubuntu 22.,04 system but mason is giving me a strange error:

meson.build:77:3: ERROR: File res/abandoned.ply.col does not exist.

and the logs do not go into more detail on what this "abandoned.ply.col: file is as well as there is not "res/" subdirectory.

Did you run into any of this in your build which I am assuming was on Ubuntu as well?

Actually, I think that they have to do with the media files but I did not expect any media to be hard coded in to the engine. Maybe I need to do some pre-processing or maybe you have those available for download as well.

Yea, in my reading below the build process for meson and ninja it seems that you say to:

Then generate flat model files

Use CloudCompare, open media/abandoned_cc.bin then media/zombie_cc.bin
Convert mesh to sample ( 90 million points for abandoned, 10 million for zombie )
Save as PLY in binary format
Use build/qmc to convert result .ply-s to flat vertex, normal and color files :
build/qmc -s 1800 -l 12 -i media/abandoned.ply
build/qmc -s 1800 -l 12 -i media/zombie.ply
Copy resulting col, nrm and pnt files under /res

What is "CloudCompare" as I have never used that one before?

UPDATE: I found CloudCompare and am trying to figure out how to convert things like you mention but no luck so far since I am not really familiar with the point cloud application.

UPDATE2: Looks like the "meson setup build" wants to include the abandoned/zombie files that have not been created yet since the "qmc" application is not being compiled first. I have the ply files from the "CloudCompare" for each but then the qmc needs to be built first so that I can generate the col, nrm, pnt files that are needed during the "meson setup build" step before the ninja step.

UPDATE3: I got things to compile by commenting out lines 77 - 84 in the meson.build file:

#fs.copyfile('res/zombie.ply.rng', 'zombie.ply.rng')

which then ran the ninja command to build qmc and qubatron. Then I used the qmc command to generate the col, nrm, pnt files and placed them in the "res" directory.

All basically looked good to that point then then I ran the "build/qubatron -v" which then gave me a core dump.

Are you able to build everything on your end and run cleanly since I might still be doing something wrong and not know it yet?

Hi, yes, first you have to convert the bin files to ply files ( in cloudcompare select the building mesh, and on the toolbar there is the sample points button where you can enter the particle count. after this select the point cloud in the tree browser instead of the mesh and then you can export it from the menu as a ply file. it's not straightforward and had to be automated in the future versions. after the ply files are ready then use build/qmc to convert result .ply-s to flat vertex, normal and color files :
build/qmc -s 1800 -l 12 -i media/abandoned.ply
build/qmc -s 1800 -l 12 -i media/zombie.ply
and finally copy resulting col, nrm and pnt files under /res.
