Orbcam Pro #47

The recordings of seminars at metauni should be taken up a notch in terms of professionalism. Currently I record on the same machine that I use to watch the talks and participate, so for example the recording has me typing in the chat and navigating my character. I can of course record on a separate machine, but "pure orbcam" tends to be a bit boring for the following reasons:

  • when there is an extended discussion and nothing happening on the board, what you really want as an audience is to have the camera zoom out of the board and look at the speaker/audience to catch the conversation
  • sometimes the camera should pull back and give a more holistic view of multiple boards
  • during board set transitions, it would be good if the camera followed the players as they migrate rather than "rushing" to look at the next board like an overeager puppy.

Orbcam should be very easy to use for an average audience member, but that should be alongside a Pro mode for those making recordings. I have in mind many keyboard shortcuts that can command the camera to perform certain moves, perhaps contextually depending on whether the orb is and what is being looked at. These would include

  • Pull back to include audience + boards
  • Camera to look at speaker + audience
  • Pull back to see entire board set
  • Follow behind the pack as players migrate from board set to board set

These could be triggered by Orbcam Pro menu items or keyboard shortcuts. We should aim to WOW people at the production values of orbcam-based recordings, and make those production values relatively trivial to achieve with a bit of training.

There is some integration here perhaps between the "drone mode" proposed by @billy-price.
