Audio different on different computers

Hi, I implemented the headphone check in my experiment and tested it in my lab. When used with the same headphones, the sounds are very dissimilar depending on the build of the computer. Meaning, a person on a macbook would always pass the test while a person on a dell desktop would fail. 
Any idea why that might be happening?
