Supporting 16bit PPM

Lots of heightmap data these days is stored in 16 bit grayscale. You may be surprised to know that mmps is the only program of its kind that exists. The closest alternative is G.Projector which lacks a number of features and can't handle files as large as mmps can handle. It would be excellent if mmps could be modified to support 16 bit gray. What do you think?

Nice idea, I'll look into it..

Also, glad to hear MMPS is of some use - it's just something I wrote for fun about 20 years ago.
