TrueHD files not always recognised as TrueHD

Having tested a few TrueHD files, as per the pop up that appears when playback starts, the addon seems to detect some of them as Dolby Digital / Dolby Digital Plus, and some of them as TrueHD. But according to Kodi in the file info they are all TrueHD, and TrueHD is the codec that shows up during playback if I view the playback statistics in Kodi. And my Denon amp is reporting that it is receiving TrueHD. So I have no idea why the addon thinks some of them are Dolby Digital and some are TrueHD. It's quite possible I am missing something.

This is with latest version pulled from Kodi repository. And a nightly Kodi from a week or so ago.

Hello, can you provide the exact version of Kodi you are using? I can try to spin it up on my PC and do some quick testing to see if I can replicate. I personally use an older version so I'm wondering if something has changed with any new releases.

Edit: I've tested on the latest Kodi v22 Piers alpha, and it seems to be working fine and as expected across many different formats. If you can provide some more info on the exact issue and how to reproduce it, I can investigate more. It might be helpful for you to provide the MediaInfo for one of the files as well so I can see what kind of formats it contains.

I have the same problem. When I launch a movie, for example a Remux of Top Gun Maverick with True HD Audio and Dolby Vision, the True HD is recognized as DD on the first launch. When I switch to a different audio, then back to True HD, it is properly recognized as True HD audio. I am running latest 21.3 stable build with your latest addon v1.5.
Right now, as a workaround, I need to delay both DV True HD and DV DD to -175ms to avoid having issues with True HD delay. Luckily I do not use DD audio as True HD is more available, but it is still PITA.

Ok, thank you for adding your experience. I have Top Gun Maverick straight from the disc as well, so I will try it out on my setup and see if it replicates the issue.

Which device/platform do you have Kodi installed on? That might help point to the issue if there is some strange quirk with how I'm querying the audio stream during playback.

Given that I'm unable to replicate, it would help if you both could provide a Kodi log file. The add-on features extensive logging with the "AOM_" prefix that I (or yourself) can ctrl+f step through and see what it's doing. There will be some lines that include this string: "AOM_StreamInfo: Gathered complete stream info" that will have log items about the stream info, including the detected audio format. If you are playing TrueHD, the format will say 'audio_format' : 'truehd'. If it's DD it will say 'ac3'.

Seeing if it's actually detected the audio stream as DD will help point to where the issue is.

In order to enable those log items, you have to enable debug logging from within Kodi first. Settings > Logging > 'Enable debug logging'.

Once that's enabled, you can open a movie that causes the issue you are experiencing. Let it play for about 5 or 10 seconds and then close the player and pull the log file. Keep in mind that some personal information such as file path names, etc might be included in the log file.

Ok, this was easier than I thought.

Here is what happened:

1. Enabled debugging
2. Started Plex
3. Started the 4k remux of Maverick, however, on the first start, I got the No Signal, not sure why this happened, could be that my hard drives were waking up and it took a bit to load the movie. Selected back out to Plex, then played it the second time, this time it played fine.
4. Your addon showed the sound as DD even though I have verified that True HD is playing.

Let me know if you want me to repeat the test with changing the audio to other track and then back to True HD.

I regenerated a new log with some extra stuff if it might prove to be useful (had to upload it to another site since it is a bit bigger)

What I did:

1. Enabled logging + enabled that advanced component logging for video, audio and addons
2. Opened Plex, opened Maveric and Avatar 2022, both on True HD
3. I swapped to another audio track and then swapped back to True HD on both movies

My initial guess is that it relates to Plex. I also have the Ugoos so I should be able to replicate it if I set up Plex in the same way you have.

I haven't really tried it with Plex, so hopefully that's the issue! I'll check your logs soon and see if I can get it resolved.

Awesome man! Your comment about Plex led me to dig through Plex settings. In Plex settings, Audio/Subtitles there is an option that is enabled by default called Treat DTS like AC3. I turned it off and now it behaves properly. Thanks again!!

@blazevicm Oh wow, so it's a Plex setting that is changing the TrueHD stream and only playing the DD core? That's really good to know, thanks for troubleshooting it! I didn't dig in the code yet, but if that's the issue I'm inclined not to worry since it's a Plex setting that I won't be able to have any control over 😅 I can make a note of it in the README though for other people.

Is that setting in your Plex server web UI settings? Or is this with a specific Plex add-on for Kodi that you are using?
