Support for Conda?

NERSC are going to abandon virtualnenv and switch to Conda for python environment management on Cori. I am sure whethe MPEnv supports it. If not, should we add support for Conda?

Sounds good to me. Do they have a timetable of when they plan to make the switch?

The sjtu branch contains a version of MPEnv using conda for installing MP software at SJTU. Once NERSC switches, we should be able to use it as a template.

I can't see any issues with adding conda support as long as virtualenv support isn't deprecated. We've had users at ALCF have sub-optimal experiences running Anaconda as it does a rather poor job of dependency and variant management (e.g. non-x86 cpu, mpi, compiler, and cuda support) and are holding off any official support as a result.

For Edison, I think we have plenty of time. For cori, I am not sure. Probably, already. At the current time, virtualenv is not available. I submitted a ticket to NERSC help, they said that they will abandon virtualenv.

Personally, I would recommend avoiding conda. Virtualenv is baked into Py3k. It is not going anywhere. NERSC should just work with virtualenv.
Another option is to use pyenv.
