When the axis has a lot of close entries, they often overlap, become rotated or general appear bad. It's unclear how to handle this nicely - ultimately the data is just close together and stretching it is also bad.

Sometimes subscript labels can fall outside of the bounds of the plot. I think if the label becomes rotated and is more than 3 chars its basically guarenteed to happen (see below for example):
