Feature request: hide app icon

I want to use the app running in the background but not see the app icon in the dock. An Icon in the menu bar could appear instead.

I like this idea; I had a quick google around for cross-platform techniques to do this and it seems a bit tricky so may end up having to do a one-per-platform approach to make it work
