Images are rotated on Samsung (Android)

I'm trying to understand the code of the android module.
If you have time can you please add some comments explaining the main function calls ?
On Samsung the images and thumbs are rotated. I am working on changing the rotation of the images by reading their exif rotation values and I'm partially successful for images but I'm not able to get thumbnail orientation values.
What's the purpose of getImageByURL ? Is it linking to the thumbnail version ? Is the thumbnail version same size as the original image ? I'm able to access the images using the key property

This isn't just a Samsung issue. I believe it occurs on all Android versions above 5. I "fixed" this by reading the exif data of the original image and creating new thumbnails, but it's fairly slow. Android Thumbnails in the .thumbnail folders don't seem to have any exif data attached to them, so I couldn't find a way to rotate them.

This does not happen on my Nexus 6P so I suspect this is Samsung specific issue. Did it happen on other devices ?

My LG G4 does this (as well as my Note 4, but that's a Samsung device). I also saw it on an HTC device I borrowed to test with. I believe it was a ONE.
