Book compaction breaks irreversibly the text

Whereas the "scramble" function appears to work (albeit with the warning to make a backup copy), the "compact" one utterly breaks the text, mixing/breaking titles with paragraph text and links.

If an example is required, it will probably need to wait for the 2024 Corti contest to be over :-)
