Mark and kill at the same time

Is there an easy tweak that allows to kill AND mark an highlighted region at the same time.
Basically, I'd like to combine the two tools implemented here. Or in other works, I'd like 
to be able to call activate-region as soon as a region is highlighted. 

It seems to me easy and useful improvement, but I'm not good enough at lisp to find the solution.
