Merge latest unstable branch into websockets #4159
Description
Desired behavior
The websockets branch should be ready to merge into unstable, and should be mostly functional to prevent blocking of other ongoing work in unstable.
Current behavior
We have made several changes to the Studio frontend change event architecture, as well as many bug fixes, and those changes in the unstable branch haven't been merged into the websockets branch in a long while.
