Dependency updates & contributing

I'm interested in contributing to the project. At the moment, the main branch doesn't run (or it didn't for me). I noticed that there is an unmerged PR that updates some dependencies for Android (#78, from @SyntaxBlitz). In my fork, I made a few changes that allowed me to run the app on iOS (see https://github.com/janek/lt-app).

I thought I would make this issue to ask if there are plans to merge these changes to make the app more ready for contributions. I think those two sets of changes would allow it to run, but it could be better if we managed to upgrade to current version of React Native.
