[Question] How mandatory is Aliro certification? #1

First of all, thank you for the wonderful resource of information on Aliro, it's super helpful.

Now, for the question:

While the communication protocol is open and devices should be able to interoperate without problems even without official certification, it's at least a prerequisite to get certified if you want to market your device as Aliro compatible.

This makes me wonder whether this is a USB-like cituation (and forgive me if my understanding of it is wrong), where fully compatible devices and cables can be sold even without certification (they're just not allowed to use "USB" anywhere on the box), or if it's going to be more of a tightly guarded ecosystem.

Google's own "AI overview" is quick to jump to claims that none of the big 3 Digital Wallets are going to allow adding non-certified locks to them. Yet, I'm completely unable to find any sources actually backing this up.

This matters to me, since I would like to diy my own Aliro smart lock through a combination of an esp32, pn532, a "dumb" electromechanical lock and countless sleepless nights of way-over-my-head protocol implementation by hand. It would be a real shame to just not be able to do it simply because Wallet compatibility is gatekept.

So, is there any real information out there on whether Wallet integration is gatekept to officially certified devices/producers?
