Does using Gmail account naming rules make sense

It's all about removing all . and anything after + when normalising usernames.

I would suggest yes.
It's specified in RFC 5233 and it's called Subaddressing.

@shokinn if this would be a full fledged email service I would totally agree. As I consider it to be just a mockup I wonder if narrowing down potential pool of emails and such a flexibility really make sense. Do you have any real life examples that would prove such feature to be useful?

Well, I haven't thought enough about it.
I think it dose not make any sense when you use a disposable email service which is designed for short term usage.
