entering submode with <C-N> causes strange behaviour

I would like to create a "Completion submode" using the following call:
call submode#enter_with('Completion', 'i', '', '<C-N>', '<C-N>')

but it causes strange behaviour... The word I am trying to use completion on suddenly vanishes and only if I press <C-N> again the word comes back and the completion menu appears.
