Adding menus?

Hello,
I'm looking for extensions allowing to dynamically create menus (on the main menubar) from Python code. And it seems that ipylab is quite close to that.
Does ipylab support adding menus from Python? Would it be difficult to extend it to that? (I can try to give a hand on that, but I've no experience so far with jupyterlab extensions...)
