Polar plot improvement

great usefull tool. It would be great if the polar plot can be improved by adding a tangent condition at the end of the lines.
The orc data for upwind is cut at the vmg. That is the 1st point of the upwind data is the VMG. This by definition has a gradient of zero (delta Vmf/delta TWA).
By adding this simple condition the polar graph would be greatly improved.
See red lines below as an example. The same applies for the downwing VMG

Interesting observation. I have also wondered how ORC 'joins' upwind VMG to the '52' degree point as some boats, like ours, accelerate rapidly as one steers lower upwind which makes it quicker to sail around slower/higher sailed boats upwind by going to leeward. Also at the top mark, overlaying a few degrees is hardly noticeable as the boat sails so much quicker 2-3 degrees lower than 'on the wind'

This is just a display issue. In reality the curves are as I described. If you would calculate the polar every 1deg you would get the correct smooth filled in curve. The issue here is you have sparse points and therefore not enough info to get the correct shape. By adding the boundary condition that teh gradient of the VMG/TWA is zero at teh VMG points you add important information that is "provided" by the ORC polar data. This way it will be a significant improvement.
Again this is only a display issue, your boat will still sail as before :) :) :P :P
