Applications should give useful error messages when badly configured

Image storm crashes if its asset directory does not exist.

Update image storm to check if the asset path exists. Much more remains to be done for all the applications. Moved this out of the alpha release to fix later. Should add issues for each application.

Possibly add helpers to base class.
