[Bug]: Filesystem and Mac Catalyst Xcode build : No such module 'IONFilesystemLib'

Current Behavior

Hi,

Since the latest version of @capacitor/filesystem (7.1.1) (works before in version 7.0.1) I can no longer build under Xcode the Catalyst (Mac) version of my app. I have the error: No such module 'IONFilesystemLib'.
Everything works properly for iOS, I can build and lunch app in the simulator

Hey @cschoenecker thanks for opening this issue. Since version 7.1.0, a lot of the native functionality of this plugin is offered a separate native library, IONFilesystemLib, which is not available for macOS, and so you won't be able to build your app with Mac Catayst. This also applies to some other official plugins (e.g. geolocation)

As mentioned in this other issue, neither Capacitor nor the official plugins have official support for Mac Catalyst, or macOS apps for that matter.

Thanks for the clarification, I will downgrade the version while waiting to find another alternative for Catalyst, the other Capacitor plugins I use work very well on Mac Catalyst.

Just ran into this myself. Downgrading to v7.0.1 works, but it's disappointing to hear that:

1. A newer version of this package does not support Mac Catalyst
2. This breaking change was introduced on a minor version bump

I'm aware that IONFilesystemLib does not support macOS by choice. If anyone has any workaround to getting IONFilesystemLib working on macOS, please update this issue!

But I am not able to run the simulator with capacitor anymore. Can you help?

UPDATE:

When I do npx cap sync, I get the no such module. When I do pod deintegrate and pod install - the app starts in the sim.

You will be able to run the app on an iPhone simulator by removing the macOS target.

I mean that when i start fresh and do npx cap sync, my xcode says there is a module missing.

And when I run "pod deintegrate" followed by a "pod install" everything works fine

7.1.0 comes with an additional pod (the IONFilesystemLib) that wasn't there, but it should be installed when running npx cap sync.

In any case, if it works by re-installing the pods, then it should be fine. If it is an issue, doubt it is specific to this plugin (or to capacitor really).
