Calculation of Rauch Indices

Thank you for providing this useful tool! I have a question regarding the calculation of Rauch indices in the function get_proddiff.

Specifically, I noticed the description:"The get_proddiff function concords users' input codes to SITC2 codes and then extracts the corresponding Rauch classifications."

While the function allows users to set prop = "n", prop = "r", or prop = "w" to return the proportion of "w", "r", or "n" in the resulting vector of Rauch indices, I couldn’t find a detailed explanation of how Rauch indices are computed or derived from Rauch (1999).

Could you provide clarification on: The exact method used to compute Rauch indices. I reviewed Rauch (1999) but couldn’t locate detailed descriptions of the calculations. Any clarification or resources would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Qizheng,

So the function concords input codes to SITC2 codes, counts how many of those codes are, e.g., "w", based on Rauch (1999)'s classification, and then divides that number by the total number of concorded SITC2 codes to get the proportion. Nothing fancy involved. See function code for exact details https://github.com/insongkim/concordance/blob/master/R/get_proddiff.R.
