Doesn't load matlab

Plugin doesn't load matlab filetype automatically, had to put this in config:

ft = { "matlab" }

Is this intended or a bug?

Interesting. probably unnecessary. Want to give it a go and fix it? Feel free to fork, branch, feature and PR. If its too much, I can look into it.
