@Integralist I think the update must have installed somewhere that is shadowed in your $PATH since main.go:376 could only panic on v0.8.4, but the code in v.0.8.5 has nothing that can panic at this line.

In v0.8.4, this line looks up some config value, and there's an error at the top of the output you shared saying that the config is invalid. I made a migration script for that before, but either that migration didn't account for something in your current config, or the mix of v0.8.5 having applied + v0.8.4 still running because it's in $PATH might be involved too.

Can you have a look at which humanlog and whether the new v0.8.5 version installed elsewhere?

Thanks for the details, can you check the output of "humanlog --version"? I suspect that the new version installed somewhere else that is later in your PATH than "~/.humanlog/bin". I recently changed the install mechanism to automatically integrate in PATH and it might have caused this problem.

So I decided I'd just remove the binary from the current location:

humanlog not found

...and it looks like humanlog isn't installed anywhere (no where my $PATH could find at least).

So I then installed it fresh:

I'm presuming humanlog is trying to do something there.

But my ~/.zshrc is a bit specialised:

But even after removing that line from my ~/.zshrc I'm finding that which humanlog is still showing it as installed somewhere in /Users/integralist/.local/state/fnm_multishells/... which is really strange?

To add further to the confusion it looked like humanlog was no longer able to parse my json log lines (making me think maybe some of the flags had changed), so I tried a reduced test case...

Ok I think I understand the problem. Sorry about this, I'll work on a fix when I get a chance. Something in the install script shipped unexpectedly yesterday and it wasn't tested enough.

I deleted the bad version from the release server for now, and if you delete this file and install again, I believe it should work now.

I switched back the install script to install in the old location and stop trying to be smart about picking something in PATH. And I rolled back 0.8.5 from the main release channel since it looks like the transition from v0.8.4 to v0.8.5 needs more testing. If you're able to, would you be able to run the update with HUMANLOG_DEBUG=true. This should make it print a ton of stuff, and I think it might explain why it's installing the binary in an unexpected location. Also:

humanlog> performing upgrade in place: new binary not exists: stat /var/folders/lj/y1tlk7nd5tgcz5z00fycytjr0000gp/T/3220158320/bin/humanlog: no such file or directory

Is probably relevant here. I'll look into that.
