Proposal for user interface improvements #463

I think some slight changes to the user interface of the RGBtoHDMI software could improve the overall user experience. These proposals are largely independent and can be considered individiually:

  1. Make the selected item stand out more. I would prefer inverting the letters of the selected item instead of adding angle brackets.
  2. Use the same method to change values for all options: Use menu button to highlight the value, then change it with up and down buttons. Menu button again will go back to just have the item itself selectted. Also it would be nice to optically show that now the value will be changed when using the up/down buttons. Maybe adding small arrows to the value.
  3. For single-button mode (where long presses simulate the menu button), have two states in which the value is highlighted: Incrementing and decrementing. The state can be cycled by long presses in this way: Item itself is just selected -> Value is selected for increment - Value is selected for decrement -> Item is just selected again.
  4. Re-arrange the items in the main menu, to form groups of related things (maybe with vertical seperation):
    a. (Profile management): Select Profile, Sub-Profile, Save Profile, Restore Default Profile, Create Custom Profile
    b. (settings for the profile): Palette Menu, References Menu, Settings Menu, Geometry Menu, Sampling Menu, HDMI, Auto Calibrate
    c. (settings independent of profiles): Resolution, Refresh, Test Monitor for 50Hz, Info
There are also other options but I don't understand them, so I have not included them in the above list
