I think it would be a viable alternative, but would require a re-design of each of the CPU adapter boards, as the connector footprint and pinouts are different.

The adapter boards are for an FPGA board known as the EEPIZZA LX9 Core board that is sadly no longer available.

There isn't an exact replacement available, and I haven't got around to redesigning the adapter boards for something that is.

If it has to be S6 then it's this or random Alibaba I guess. It appears S6 availibility generally is bad. Trenz product page says their S6 products are EOL'ed in 2030. But everything but LX45 is out of stock. LX45 has 108 stock. So it could be earlier than 2030.
Positive is adapter development with minimal involvement and changes. Btw. do you have EEPizza datasheet or anything?

Gosh, the Trenz board is expensive. And with very fine pitch connectors. It's definitely overkill for this project.

It doesn't have to be S6, or even Xilinx for that matter.

Just before Christmas I did an experimental port of the VHDL to a fairly generic Altera board:

Which CPU architecture(s) (6502/Z80/6809) are you interested in?

Ordered a couple of those cyclone10 boards with bottom side connectors. I appear to have USB blaster already from ancient times. I guess it's fine.
Have you reversed the power circuit, usb or other features of the board? What does the switch do?

I'll do C10 board symbol and footprint, inverted DIP40 footprint and then assing signals to fpga pins or pass it to you.
I guess there is some consideration about ie. clk signal assigment? I have never done FPGA designs, but what I believe IO is pretty arbitrary? How about trigger signals?

Clock signals should ideally be connected to global clock inputs.

No, that PDF is definitely the Cyclone-10 Development Board.

Layout:
Now I need just board outline dimensions, mounting hole placement and 2x24 pin row placements.
It's going to be tight fit. I love to see the constraint. Signals are assigned where they land on the footprint.

Clock signals should ideally be connected to global clock inputs.

Selected /CLK, /TRIG_1 and /TRIG_2 for available I assume global inputs.
Then last available input is for /NMI or /INT or /NMI (AND) /INT.
Or some kind of combination of asynchronous events? Any ideas?
There is space at the bottom of the board for logic circuits to do all kinds of combinations.
Personally I have a sort of problem where I can not just simulate because interrupts are from black box.
I'm not yet sure how I'll reverse the interrupts, but I know the black box has at least clocking, IO muxing and timers.

Schematic:
Added diodes from target VCC to 5V, but as DNP. Added 5V nominal voltage monitor TPS3702CX50 with OV and UV out to target VCC.
Intention is that by default target side has it's own 5V from target and fpga board has it's own 5V from USB.
/OV and /UV also asynchronous signals. I can combine /UV to /RESET or have it separatelly or both?

@kakigate , I would be interested in coordinating pin assignment to the 2x48 Pin connector, as I am working on a Z80 board, with the Cyclone 10 on top of it. I am in more need of a 6809 "Adapter" though more possibilities to test the Z80 version and as this is the biggest (FPGA code wise) so that is the reason to do the Z80 first.
The PDF is definitely the Cyclone 10 development board, I also copied the component names from the development board, finding out that the component numbering of this board skipped a number now and then (e.g. C21, C32, C33).
The switch is an On/Off switch (power) for the whole board.
