Users API no longer returns @mention string

I used to be able to do client.user(email).view.mention_name, but now, client.user(email) only returns:

<HipChat::User user_id="***@***.com", api_version="v2", server_url="https://api.hipchat.com">

Could we get this updated? Or is there a new way of getting the mention string?
