I would like to find if there is any shape exclude boundary layer outsides the boundary layer shape, I merge all shapes in same layer and compare with boundary shape. However, the function of gdstk.boolean(polygons, [], 'or') is slow, even slower than I compare each shape with boundary shape one by one.

Yes, that's correct. Boolean operations scale more than linearly with number of vertices, so it will be probably faster to compare individual shapes in a loop than doing a single comparison after merging all shapes.

yeah, when I use commercial tool to merge shapes, like calibredrv, It's about 15-20 times faster. Shall we consider to speed this function up. @heitzmann

these two examples do same thing, the first takes 1 min, the second takes 15 mins
