error from pipe

of 0.9.8 just get tones of these errors in console from the of app:
[ error ] Pipe has been closed, attempting to reopen.

ffmpeg works fine

can you send the commands you're using to start the FIFO and your application code?

A test with a local file:

I can play this with:
ffplay -i bin/data/fifo.ppm

Sorry for the delay--I was on holiday vacation for a couple weeks. Have you tried using the absolute path of the fifo in the call to video.open()? An argument of "fifo.ppm" would be resolved relative to the current working directory, and I've no idea what that is in your case.

Hard coding the path to the fifo makes no difference. nothing plays
in the OF app.
ffmpeg waits for the of app. then as soon as the app tries to connect ffmpeg stops and
you get the error:
[ error ] Pipe has been closed, attempting to reopen.

Using ffplay or ffmpeg to read from the fifo works ok, so its not that.

It sounds like the OpenFrameworks app is having trouble reading from the pipe or closing the file handle or something. Have you tried compiling the OF app with debug information and stepping through the code to see where/how it fails? For instance, take a look at what openPipe() returns, and ensure frameImage is successfully allocated here: https://github.com/heisters/ofxVideoPipe/blob/master/src/ofxVideoPipe.cpp#L172 . Reading back through the code (I haven't looked at in 5 years), there are a few potential issues and places where errors are just swallowed instead of being reported to the user. So debugging is probably the best way to get more information.
