Documentation for prec is misleading

The documentation for prec says:

"Render a floating point number, with the given number of digits of precision. Uses decimal notation for values between 0.1 and 9,999,999, and scientific notation otherwise."

However, prec 2 3300 yields "3.3e3". I understand why that is, but the documentation made me expect decimal notation.
