EXT. GRAZING FIELD – SUNNY MORNING 🌤️
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Horse 82 stood next to the river in the grazing field, her grey coat shimmering and pink spots catching the morning light. Horse 21 and Horse 82 had grown very fond of each other recently and enjoyed nothing more than a picnic by the river.
EXT. GRAZING FIELD – JUST BEFORE DAWN - Rain 🌧️ Mist 🌫️
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“This rain makes me feel so alive,” said HORSE 82. “Do you think you might race later?”
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“Sure, if there is a spare stall,” replied HORSE 21.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“I might go say hi to some of the other horses first though,” HORSE 21 added.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
““Okay, catch you soon. I love our new paddock,” said HORSE 82. “So much better than our website paddock.”
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“I love it too, but not as much as I love you, Horse 82,” said HORSE 21.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“I can’t wait until our next picnic,” HORSE 82 responded, blushing somewhat.
EXT. ENGAGEMENT FARM – DAWN - SHOWERY ☔️
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“Good morning, Horse 389,” said HORSE 21.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“Hey, Horse 21— is it ok if I catch you later? I’m kinda tired today,” answered HORSE 389.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“No worries,” said HORSE 21. “I’ll catch up with you soon.”
EXT. PADDOCK – MORNING - CLEARING UP A BIT 🌦️
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“Good morning, Horse Nineteen,” greeted HORSE 21.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“Good morning, Horse 21,” said HORSE 19. “I was just taking a look at the lands beyond.”
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“Ah,” said HORSE 21. [PAUSE – WEAK] “The lands beyond. You should go there. It’s not the big deal everyone thinks it is.”
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“I’ll need some bravery boots though, and they’re not in my traits,” replied HORSE 19.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
HORSE 21 and HORSE 19 discussed a system where chained horses could borrow different traits from each other to perform certain tasks. Wearing bravery boots would give HORSE 19 the confidence he needed to venture into the lands beyond.
EXT. RACING STALLS – AFTERNOON - CLEARING UP A BIT 🌦️
NARRATOR (V.O.)
But there was no time for that now—it was race day. HORSE 21 made his way to the stalls, put on his game face, and attempted to psyche out the other horses.
EXT. PADDOCK GAS STATION – AFTERNOON - CLEARING UP A BIT 🌦️
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Chained HORSE 21 stopped by the gas station—very convenient in the paddock, with guns, liquor, and cigarettes on offer. He got on well with the V1 PUNK working there. He didn’t really need anything but thought he’d stop in to say hi.
INT. PADDOCK GAS STATION – AFTERNOON - CLEARING UP A BIT 🌦️
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“Top of the morning,” said the V1 PUNK.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“I think my best days are behind me,” said HORSE 21. “I only came third in the race earlier today. I didn’t psyche out the other horses enough, started poorly, and was never even in touch. Still, it was nice to see a chain face at the race. I wonder which one it was?”
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“It feels like there are more and more NFTs arriving in the paddock every day. There’s me, of course, and the Two Bit Bear up in Probably Wood,” said the V1 PUNK.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“I must be the only one who hasn’t seen that bear,” said HORSE 21. “He’s up in Probably Wood? I guess if we’re all on the same wallet then any NFT can turn up. There does seem to be a correlation between whether you see the whole NFT or just a head shot. Is that why I’m always behind this desk?”
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“Maybe,” said the V1 PUNK.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Horse 21 and the V1 PUNK discussed the original premise of Web3—to bring us together—and how, though many had tried and failed, still held a candle for the promise of the metaverse. Using the blockchain as a source of truth for ownership is an elegant way to handle a game universe, and tech giants like Mark Zuckerberg may have been too focused on their own closed networks to properly sell its benefits.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Conversely, it seems equally unrealistic that a grassroots movement could build out the type of AAA architecture needed for such an endeavour. Yet recent advancements in A.I. level the playing field, and those with little existing skin in the game might be best positioned to realise this dream.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“I mean—purely from a developer’s perspective—I see a better way to do things,” said HORSE 21.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Just then, Horse 21 remembered he was running in the evening race. “A pleasure as always,” he said to the V1 PUNK. “See you around.”
EXT. PADDOCK RACE TRACK – EVENING
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Horse 21 won the evening race easily. He preferred these conditions, and felt more determined after his conversation.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“Oh look—those ducks of doom have stopped,” said HORSE 21.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
“Ok. I’ll make a ticket in the morning,” said HORSE 82.
