I contacted Anthropic support about the ToS compliance of using Claude Code in self-hosted runners, and wanted to share their official response with the community.

My question was:
Is it compliant with Claude Max ToS to use Claude Code in automated/headless environments (specifically GitHub Actions self-hosted runners)?

Anthropic Support's response:

✅ There's no explicit prohibition against automated or headless usage with Max subscription
✅ It's acceptable for personal projects at moderate scale
✅ They welcome community sharing of implementations
Important caveats they mentioned:

It's a "gray area" since consumer plans are primarily designed for interactive use
They reserve the right to modify ToS in the future
For business use or significant scale, commercial offerings would be more appropriate

It is now actually implemented directly within Claude Code so it is definitely allowed.

You might have somehow shared your subscription via the github action with colleagues for example? That wouldn't be allowed.
