Appears to be a php version issue. Is solved by downgrading composer image to composer@sha256:d374b2e1f715621e9d9929575d6b35b11cf4a6dc237d4a08f2e6d1611f534675

We are currently using the mentioned composer@sha256:d374b2e1f715621e9d9929575d6b35b11cf4a6dc237d4a08f2e6d1611f534675
but we still get this error in our logs.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Did you re-build or just start it after changing?

I did a full rebuild.
Also because of the warning from the composer dockerhub repo about not guaranteeing PHP versions, I tried making my own php7.2-cli and it still shows the same error. The contents of the Dockerfile are below.

And just for succinctness and to avoid any doubt I changed the compose.yml file as follows

Ok so this ended up being a red herring.
The warning about 'data' was just that only a notification and I had previously used -debug 3 before moving over to the latest version. I moved that back to debug 2 which contains the notification suppression so the 'data' notification has gone.
My core issue was during the upgrade the last two lines of the environment.ini got re-comment out so the socket wasn't being enabled on the pathfinder side.
Removing the comment made it all work again on both the composer docker container and my own php-cli one.
