How to use lf's echo command with variables?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to get lf to toggle the watch setting and also echo back whether it is on or off. Like so:

map W :set watch! ; echo "\033[0;46m watch $lf_watch"

However, lf just prints:

 watch $lf_watch

That is because you are executing the command in lf's normal command line which has no understanding of env vars. You need to make it a shell-pipe command (shell command that pipes its output to lf's ruler) by adding a % in front of it (also adding a reset sequence after it to avoid ui glitches):

map W :set watch! ; %echo "\033[0;46m watch $lf_watch \033[0m"

Ah thank you so much, this does exactly what I want. I avoided using shell pipes because I was using echomsg earlier but I really had no need to.

No problem at all! Just so you know, even though it being useless, you absolutely could have used echomsg like this:

map W :set watch! ; $lf -remote "send $id echomsg \"\033[0;46m watch $lf_watch \033[0m\""
