Alias folders?

I have a series of alias folders set up, to facilitate seeing the images most pertinent to a particular topic. But Phoenix Slides doesn't recognize them -- it just describes the enclosing folder as "empty". As nobody else seems to have mentioned this, it's likely that I'm doing something wrong. Otherwise, it seems as if it would be a valuable feature.
