Constant UserWarning: pkg_resources is deprecated as an API

Hi, I just keep getting this UserWarning from this library and I was wondering if there is something that could be done.

This is now an error with the recent release of setuptools v82.0.0.

$ python -c "import stopit"
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<string>", line 1, in <module>
    import stopit
  File "/opt/homebrew/Cellar/micromamba/2.3.0/envs/tmp/lib/python3.14/site-packages/stopit/__init__.py", line 10, in <module>
    import pkg_resources
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pkg_resources'

I know, the way I solved it was locally with:
python -m pip install "stopit @ git+https://github.com/glenfant/stopit.git@9a559afdba924c444cc02fd258548029aacedd3c"
And in my requirements.txt:
stopit @ git+https://github.com/glenfant/stopit.git@9a559afdba924c444cc02fd258548029aacedd3c
Instead of: stopit>=1.1.2

Basically it uses this correction made by @kajaste : https://github.com/glenfant/stopit/pull/30/changes/9a559afdba924c444cc02fd258548029aacedd3c

I wrote a new library for new Pythons here https://github.com/kajaste/overdue

It will avoid the setuptools issue as well as adds type safety and overall tries to implement the same functionality in a more modern Python environment. Also you will not need any hacks in your requirements.txt or anything else, just install the overdue package from PyPI.

For transitive dependency cases (you depend on something that depends on stopit), you'll still need to install one of the non-mainline stopit versions from the comment above. Pinning setuptools as mentioned in the UserWarning might help in some projects as well.
