Community Size - How to evaluate ?

I was thing of the number of questions on stack-overflow about the project but this means that a tag for the project exists, which may not be the case.

Furthermore, I would prefer not to completely disadvantage small projects.

Number of stars could be a way of getting that.

Ideas ?

Can't we use metrics from http://mvnrepository.com, https://rubygems.org, https://pypi.python.org/pypi ?
A simple way to deploy the rated project should be a minimum.

These could provide good metrics. However they imply that we support a finite number of langages and that it depends on their dependency management systems.

The advantage of using github only metrics is that we could be used for rating nearly every kind of project on github.

I guess the question really is: do we want to limit the number of langages to get more detailed data ?

The number of stars can also be used as bookmarks (awesome-*** repos) or as signs of approval.
The number of answered pull request could be a good sign.

A pull request can be a sign that there are a lot of things to fix :). On the other hand it is also a sign of implications.
