Post preview doesn't show html correctly

I really like the list page created when multiple posts are in a subdirectory. eg I have a folder events with a md file per event and hugo creates an event directory at the /events path. A preview of the text is shown with each entry but the text doesn't seem to render css/html or shortcodes well, it just dumps the text content of them out. Is this a limitation? Or an incorrect use on my part of the auto-list page created at the root of a sub-directory.
I apologize if this is explained in the documentation, or if its a hugo question I can search their forums.

The .Summary is piped through the plainify function, which removes all formatting. It was a long time ago when I wrote that code, but I think I did it because it was what I saw in other themes. Would you be able to experiment with what happens when you change that line and send through a Pull Request if you think it's helpful?

I think plainify is often used after the summary to protect against images or headings being added at the beginning of a post. Given this theme uses .Post.Title as an h1 in single.html, I think it is probably unlikely that users will add an h1 to the start of their post (or event in your case), but it is something you should be aware of.

I would really like it if hugo had a filter similar to plainify that kept formatting such as bold or emphasis etc, but stripped out headings and images. The summary here would be the perfect use case for that.

However, given that function doesn't exist, you would probably be best off writing a partial template for the summary that strips out the bits you don't want. If you call this layouts/_partials/summary.html:

You could then change the code in listbody.html to something like

{{ partial "summary.html" . }} 

Note that this isn't perfect. There are probably a bunch more tags you want to strip out. It's probably also worth noting that regular expressions are not well suited for passing html. With complex markup, this will break. However, given this is probably from markdown, it shouldn't be TOO complicated.
