Rhythmbox dead and using 100% CPU after clicking Radio browser icon

I'm using Rhythmbox 2.96 on Ubuntu 12.04. When I click the Radio browser icon Rhythmbox starts using 100% CPU infinitely. Nothing happens, Rhythmbox window remains dead...
I already completely removed and reinstalled Rhythmbox, but no change at all

How did you install radio browser?

I installed it from ppa:fossfreedom/rhythmbox-plugins

Ok. Have you purged the package?

sudo apt-get purge rhythmbox-plugins-radio-browser

Unfortunately it did not help.
I even purged

• rhythmbox-plugin-radio-browser AND
• rhythmbox

and made a clean reinstall of both rhythmbox and rhythmbox-plugin-radio-browser.

Before I also tried uninstalling rhythmbox-plugin-radio-browser, reinstalling rhythmbox-radio-browser (the old plug-in that comes with Ubuntu 12.04), afterwards purging the old plug-in and rhythmbox by using apt-get purge.

Still the same effect... After clicking "Radio browser", Rhythmbox starts consuming 100% CPU and the Rhythmbox windows remains unresponsive infinitely.

I noticed apt-get install rhythmbox-plugin-radio-browser from your ppa installs Version 0.2-4. I am not sure if this is correct for Precise.
The Changelog file in the master branch here is making a reference to Version 3.0...

The version is correct for 12.04 and is the same version as the master branch.

I no longer have a 12.04 system so cannot test the plugin anymore. An educated guess given the time interval of approx 4 years ago is that the board-handler API has recently changed. The other providers have also changed their API's and as such I suspect that these API changes have caused the plugin to "loop" indefinitely waiting for results in the wrong format.

That's a pity, but I can get along with it. Sooner or later I will upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 and maybe by this time the Radio browser plug-in will be available for this platform too. Currently it looks like it isn't.
I am not a programmer, so I could only do some testing in order to get the plug-in running again under 12.04.
If you don't see any chance feel free to close this issue.
