this is more of a nitpick than a real issue but it's weird how this works with mingw but not normal linux. i've tried to build it on linux and it needs way more fiddling to get it working. plus, what's the point of an open source pc port only working on windows?

I don't see how this is relevant. It's not like you aren't allowed to make something open source unless you make versions for all major platforms.

Though, I do agree that there should be a Linux and Mac version.

Currently works with proton, but I plan to include a proper linux version after I'm done with my work on windows. Most OS specific calls are guarded under tags, but I don't want to say I support something without properly testing it.

Do you mean the game works in Proton after being built, or do you mean MSYS2 shell works in Proton? I tried using quasi-msys2 in mingw mode to build it but that didn't work because there's no mingw32 in the Arch repo and I honestly just couldn't get around to getting it elsewhere at the time lol

If there is some sort of build support coming for Linux I'll wait for that instead of fiddling with mingw lol

It works after being built. I've seen someone running it on steam deck through proton. You can currently just download the zip from the releases section, no need to build it unless you are modifying the code.

I built on Windows machine and copied the directory to Linux. AnimalCrossing.exe runs perfectly fine through Steam :)

+1 on this, a linux version would be great 🤓 i don't see the point in migrating from emulation (which gives you far more options) to a compatibility layer instead of running natively, given it has been already decompiled and ported to pc

While I disagree with the sentiment from the OP saying there is no point to Windows only open source projects. I do thoroughly support a native Linux port, even if it just supplies some documentation for Linux builds. With the Steam Deck and Steam Machine, on top of the somewhat growth of Linux as a gaming platform, it would fit right at home. Good work on the porting to PC as a whole by the way, impressive stuff.

It runs on proton but it seems some textures are glitchy? For instance my character has no legs...

wine has a ton of bugs so if they had a release version for linux that would be nice

Migrated to 64 bit and support for cross platform, confirmed working on MAC, and ARCH, haven't tested other distributions.

Can confirm the above builds and boots with a built 64bit linux binary. I am running cachyos.
